Ione continues to wrestle with budget issues

Reports on various aspects of city business dominated the agenda at last night’s Ione City Council meeting. The Council heard an update on the Mule Creek infill project, which will add considerably to the number of inmates at the prison. The presentation focused on efforts to address issues that the expansion will cause Ione, and both State representatives and City officials emphasized cooperation between the two levels of government.  There was also a report on the results of the 2012-2013 financial audit, as the City continues to wrestle with a number of continuing issues related to bookkeeping at City Hall. While these issues, mostly related to transfers of fund between different City accounts, have been identified, it will take several years of repayment to restore the accounts to balance. The Council also heard about efforts to restore the historic Train Depot building, which has been relocated to City property, as well as a plan to improve facilities and services offered at the City-run RV Park and Horse Arena at Howard Park.
