Community Comes Together For Jessica

On Sunday at the Amador County Fair Junior Livestock Auction the community came to help out a special young lady.  Spearheaded by Ledger Dispatch publisher Jack Mitchell, a special fundraising effort was started to purchase Jessica Gonzales' pigs.  Gonzales was in a car accident a week after graduating from high school in June. She rolled her truck on her way home from feeding her pigs. She fractured her 2nd, 3rd, and crushed her 6th, and 7th vertebrae. She has a complete spinal cord injury with little to no chance of walking again. When all was said and done, the first pig was purchased for $155 a pound and the second for $35 per pound.  Thanks to the generosity of the community and the thoughtfulness of Ledger Dispatch publisher Mitchell, while still tallying the fundraising efforts, it appears nearly $50,000 was raised.
