The Investigation Continues Into The Shooting Death Of Jack Watts

Calaveras County authorities are continuing their investigation into the shooting death of Jack Watts. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the main issue with the investigation is the area, which is fairly remote, and that there were no witnesses. 43-year-old Watts of Manteca had apparently been riding his motorcycle with friends Sunday afternoon before stopping along the way at a gas station. Watts then rode ahead of his friends, who came upon him along Highway 26 between Mokelumne Hill and Paloma, suffering from a gunshot wound. Watts later died. At this time the Calaveras County Coroner’s Office is still working to determine the exact cause of death. Michael Lee Parkerson of Manteca, was arrested on Sunday at the scene on weapons and drug charges, was an associate of Watts and is not believed to be a suspect in the shooting. There’s been a lot of speculation, that the shooting was related to gang activity, the Sheriff’s Department is looking into that as well as a number of other possibilities, including anything from road rage to a stray round from a hunter. Detectives are still hoping to hear from anyone with video surveillance cameras along the Highway 26 corridor at the time of the incident as well as those with possible information that could help fill in the missing details. The tip line number is 754-6030.
