Local Fire Incidents:  August, 7th 2018

10 AM; firefighter quickly extinguished a roadside vegetation fire in the 2700 block of Highway 12 in Calaveras County yesterday morning.  The fire in Burson scorched ¼ acre. The CHP indicates that a boat may have fallen off a hitch, igniting the fire, as a driver was reportedly trying to extinguish it. The official cause is under investigation.


11 AM; There was a 1 ½ acre vegetation fire in the area of Six Mile Road and Old Murphys Road near the Vallecito area of Calaveras County. Air and ground resources responded and it was immediately contained.


There were also some small spot fires on the side of Shake Ridge Road yesterday. Fire crews, CHP and Sheriff’s personnel responded and found grass and brush on fire near Bunkhouse Road. Fire personnel arrived quickly and contained it. One home was evacuated for safety reasons and law enforcement stayed to assist with traffic control until the scene was cleared. It was believed to have been started by a vehicle or trailer traveling on Shake Ridge Road, but the exact cause is unknown. Please be sure that your vehicles are properly serviced and all trailers are safe to use on the roadways. A flat tire or trailer safety chain can easily start a fire that results in loss of life or property.
