Ione In Better Shape Than Other Cities

Ione In Better Shape Than Other Cities

The Ione City Council approved a report on how the City is fulfilling its General Plan goals, and received a report on the City's budget following impacts from Covid-19.  Ione's General Plan last updated in 2009 lays out a long list of goals and policies for the City.  The report touted such projects as the newly approved solar power plant for the city and achievements such as the City's fire department obtaining an ISP rating of 1, the highest possible for insurance purposes.   Other goals, such as improving the city's transportation network, remain to done.  The Council also heard a report on the state of the City's finances.   Revenue from sales tax is expected to drop between 15 and 20 percent due to businesses closed or with reduced sales due to Covid-19 shelter in place.  Ione, unlike other cities such as Jackson, Plymouth and Sutter Creek does not rely at all on taxes on hotel stays, which will see a major reduction in other areas.  While the city may see some loss of property tax revenue due to Covid-19-related job losses, the new homes currently being built and sold in the City are expected to make up for any revenue loss.
