Gann Fire Claims Woman's Life

A tragic development in the Gann Fire investigation. Authorities have confirmed that a 70-year-old woman died as a result of the wildfire.  The Calaveras County Coroner's Office says the woman was found inside a burned residence in the 4600 block of Jaquima Drive near Angels Camp during the ongoing fire response.  Her identity is being withheld until positive identification is completed and her next of kin have been notified.  It’s unclear why she chose not to evacuate the residence.  The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office is leading the death investigation, working alongside the Coroner's Office, the District Attorney's Office, CAL FIRE Law Enforcement, and other investigative agencies.  Investigators are working to determine the cause and manner of death, as well as the relationship between the woman's death and the fire.  Meanwhile, CAL FIRE Law Enforcement continues to lead the investigation into the origin and cause of the Gann Fire.  Both the fire investigation and the death investigation remain active.
