Sutter Creek Dispensary Set For August 17th Agenda

Sutter Creek residents continued to voice their opposition to the proposed cannabis dispensary at last night's city council meeting. A common concern amongst speakers was the easier access to high-potency marijuana for young people citing how nearby Calaveras county  schools are facing increasing issues among it’s student population. An ordinance change will finally come before the council at their next meeting on  August 17th. The council also heard updates on accessible playground upgrades planned for Minnie Provis park and Public Works’ project plans for this fiscal year. Plans for powering the future waste water treatment plant entered their initial stage with the council approving a construction agreement with Schneider Electric for Battery Energy Storage System. The move was made ahead of an important September 4th deadline in order to secure federal tax incentives. Lastly, the council approved a contract for code enforcement consultants to aid the city in addressing code violations and developing enforcement policies aimed at resolving conflicts with three separate properties in the city. Generating public complaints and calls for safety concerns, the properties in question have excessive materials and inoperable vehicles within public view, along with the site of the former Palace which burned down on Main Street leaving a large hole in a busy tourist area. The contract is set not to exceed $20,000.
