Sutter Creek Not Fans of Consolidation

Sutter Creek is not celebrating the ACUSD consolidation plan’s passing. In discussions for a possible M.O.U. with the district the council overwhelmingly shared their distaste with the School Board’s over voting in favor of the plan to move all the county’s 10th through 12th graders to the Amador High School campus, potentially creating a traffic and parking nightmare around the school. The major concern among the council is the current plan to make the majority of student parking in the lot above the football field increasing traffic backups on the bypass and the safety of the intersection of Sutter Ione Road and Highway 49. Mayor Claire Gunselman shared she was against signing an M.O.U. with the district for it would “make ourselves part owners of the problem”. Comments and concerns from the council will be taken to Superintendent Jared Critchfield ahead of the school board’s vote on the M.O.U. at Wednesday’s meeting. The council also discussed the planning commission’s recommendations for the short-term rental ordinance, namely capping the maximum allowed permits at 28 and verbiage for limiting density via discretion at application approval. The ordinance will come before the council for approval within the next few meetings.
