Plymouth Receives Audit Update, Delays Budget Approval

Audits for the city of Plymouth are inching their way forward, where Thursday’s update reported a 60% completion rate reported for this past May. Currently, the city is weeding through audits dating back to 2021 with findings showing a lack of internal controls and documentation for capital assets contributing to further delayed reporting. Accountant Ricky Vandyke shared he believes the city will receive qualified opinions for the outstanding audits given the current status of completed findings and the remaining items to be sorted. System error conversions and bank reconciliation errors are left to be identified, but are on a better track to be completed than before. The council also received their initial look at the proposed budget for the 26/27 fiscal year showing as balanced due to a decrease in anticipated legal fees and administrative salaries. Several questions regarding loan repayments and employee time allocations across departments led to approving the budget to be tabled to the next meeting when their finance director could be in attendance. Split approval was given to the purchase of additional equipment for the city’s wastewater treatment plant. Additionally, Justin Granados received unanimous approval to extend his professional services for operating the plant.
